Deputies Investigate Fatal Shooting Near Cypress Lakes High School
HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS – Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred on Tuesday morning near Cypress Lakes High School in west Harris County. The incident, which took place in the 5800 block of Brenwood Trails Lane, resulted in the death of a young individual aged between 16 and 19 years.
The shooting occurred across from Cypress Lakes High School. Early reports from the sheriff’s office indicate that a group was assembling at the location when the gunfire broke out off campus. As the investigation progresses, HCSO continues to search for a black four-door vehicle of interest in connection with the shooting.
Major Saul Suarez of the HCSO stated, “We do have several witnesses detained at the scene. We do have leads based on those interviews.” He noted that some of the individuals detained are from Cypress Lakes High School, but it remains unclear if the incident is directly related to the school.
Despite the incident, Cypress Lakes High School maintained a regular schedule until dismissal on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed the security of the scene, allowing students to be safely picked up by their parents.
Additionally, Cy-Fair ISD reported that three schools, including Cypress Lakes High, McFee Elementary, and Emery Elementary, were placed in “secure the building mode” following the incident, although this precaution has since been lifted.
Deputies are currently investigating the cause of the shooting and are canvassing the area for surveillance footage. In light of the ongoing finals week at the school, there is an increased law enforcement presence, which is expected to continue throughout the rest of the week.
