16-Year-Old Killed in SUV Collision on Monticello Drive; No Charges Expected for Driver

TEXAS CITY, Texas, Oct. 24, 2023 — A 16-year-old male was fatally struck by an SUV late Tuesday evening. Ronnie Johnson was hit around 7:45 p.m. in the 9300 block of Monticello Drive, near Century Boulevard, according to Texas City Police Captain Manuel Johnson.

The investigation indicates that Ronnie Johnson was walking in a dark area of the road when he was struck by a Lincoln SUV. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication, distracted driving, or speeding.

Ronnie Johnson, a student at Texas City High School, suffered severe head trauma from the crash. Texas City firefighters and paramedics performed CPR at the scene before La Marque EMS transported him to HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland Center Hospital’s emergency center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed Johnson’s death and stated that the driver is not expected to face citations or charges in relation to the fatal incident.
