Houston Police Officer Indicted for Tampering with Evidence in 2021 Road Rage Incident
HOUSTON, TX, Oct. 11, 2023 – A Harris County grand jury has indicted Houston Police Department Officer Juan Miguel Ramos, 30, on charges of tampering or fabricating physical evidence. The indictment is connected to an April 2021 off-duty road rage incident in which no one was injured. The Houston Police Department conducted a criminal investigation and presented the case to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in August 2021.
Following an internal investigation by HPD’s Internal Affairs Division, Police Chief Troy Finner indefinitely suspended Ramos in August 2021. Ramos appealed his suspension, and after serving a 185-day suspension, he was reinstated in February 2022. Ramos, who was sworn in as an officer in August 2016, is currently assigned to the North Patrol Division.
In light of the indictment, Chief Finner relieved Ramos of his duties today. The department stated it respects the grand jury process and its decision.
