Montgomery County Detectives Arrest Woman in Connection with $794,200 Embezzlement Case

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TEXAS, August 28, 2023 – Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 60-year-old Kelly Kolleen Horton on charges of theft greater than $300,000, a classification of a first-degree felony in Texas.

The arrest came after an investigation revealed that Horton allegedly embezzled $794,200 from her employer over a period of four years. It is reported that Horton retained 290 payments from over 67 different customers for her personal use.

Over the course of a seven-month investigation, detectives scrutinized a series of complex transactions to expose the alleged financial fraud perpetrated against her employer.

Under Texas law, the charge carries a potential penalty of a fine up to $10,000 and a prison term ranging from five to 99 years, if she is convicted.

The case remains active, with authorities continuing their efforts to gather all pertinent information. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has encouraged individuals with knowledge of the case to assist in the ongoing investigation.
