Tragic Drowning Incident in Rio Grande, Child Pronounced Dead

EAGLE PASS, Texas, Sept. 14, 2023 – The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Tactical Marine Unit (TMU) located two unresponsive individuals in the Rio Grande following notification of possible drowning near Shelby Park in Eagle Pass.

Upon arrival, the TMU found a 26-year-old female and a 10-year-old male child, both from Honduras, and immediately administered CPR. The victims were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Regrettably, the young boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. The adult female is currently in critical condition.

The tragic incident has cast a somber tone in the community, and authorities are working diligently to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
