18-Wheeler Carrying Watermelons Engulfed in Flames on I-45 in New Waverly, Texas

NEW WAVERLY, TEXAS – September 13, 2023 – In the early hours of this morning, an 18-wheeler transporting a load of watermelons became engulfed in flames while traveling southbound on I-45 near Park Road 40. The incident was reported to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 4 am when the driver, alarmed by the fire, saw it spreading to the truck and cab.

Immediate response efforts were initiated, with the New Waverly Fire Department dispatching units to the scene. Additional manpower and a tanker from Huntsville were also mobilized to combat the fire. Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with a fully-involved blaze consuming the entire truck.

As of 9:30 am, emergency crews remain on the scene, diligently working to manage the situation and commence cleanup operations. Despite the dramatic incident, traffic in the vicinity is flowing normally, with no significant disruptions reported. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
