San Leon Boy Airlifted to Hospital after Being Struck by Truck while Riding Bicycle
SAN LEON, TEXAS, September 12, 2023 – A 10-year-old boy in San Leon is in critical condition after being hit by a truck while riding his bicycle on Monday evening, September 11, 2023.
The young boy was riding in front of a house near the intersection of FM 517 and 22nd Street when the incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Major Ray Nolen stated that incident reports detail the boy riding his bicycle in a driveway before turning around on the street to ride back.
During one of these short rides, a red pickup truck struck the boy and his bicycle. Following the collision, the 10-year-old was airlifted to a medical facility by PHI Air Ambulance. As of the last report, he remained in a “very critical” condition, according to Nolen.
As of Tuesday, the boy’s condition is still listed as critical. The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene of the accident and voluntarily underwent a field sobriety test and a blood draw. Major Nolen confirmed that there were no indications that the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.
Currently, the driver faces no charges, with the event being described as a “horrible accident.” The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to understand the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
