19-Year-Old Arrested and Charged in Connection to Auto Theft Operation in Montgomery County
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX September 7 – A 19-year-old individual has been arrested and faces several charges in connection to a series of auto thefts in the Rockville and Baltimore areas. Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division identified the suspect as Bill Gomez.
Over several months, the county experienced a surge in thefts specifically targeting Infiniti G37 model vehicles. The Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES) spearheaded the investigation into the rising number of cases, eventually narrowing down on Gomez as a prime suspect.
Further investigations unveiled a pseudo “chop-shop” operated by Gomez from his residence situated in the 800 block of Westmore Avenue in Rockville. It has been determined that the suspect utilized Vehicle Identification Numbers from wrecked or salvaged vehicles, affixing them to the stolen cars to mask their stolen status.
On September 6, 2023, ACES detectives apprehended Gomez, who was in possession of a stolen Infiniti at the time of his arrest. Following the arrest, Gomez was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where he was charged with numerous offenses related to auto theft. The court subsequently released him on a $5,000 unsecured personal bond.
The following day, September 7, detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, uncovering another stolen vehicle and additional evidence linking Gomez to the auto thefts, thereby strengthening the case against him.
Authorities are urging anyone with further information on the case to come forward as they continue to delve deeper into the operations of the alleged auto theft ring, striving to bring justice to the victims of the series of thefts.
