Hartford Police Officer Killed, Another Injured in Collision

HARTFORD, CT, Sept. 7, 2023 – A tragic accident occurred involving two Hartford police officers, one of whom was fatally injured while responding to a call.

Officer Bobby Garten, aged 34 and an eight-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department, was killed in the crash. Another officer involved, identified as Officer Kearney, was also struck during the incident but is currently in stable condition.

The accident transpired after 18-year-old Richard Barrington reportedly ran a red light, leading to a collision with the cruiser that the officers were operating. Following the incident, police have taken Barrington into custody.

The police department and community are mourning the loss of Officer Garten, remembering his dedication and service over his substantial tenure with the Hartford Police Department.
