Boat Engulfed in Flames Drifts Into Clear Lake, Seabrook Fire Department Responds

Seabrook, TX, August 29, 2023 – At approximately 6:40 a.m., Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department responded to a boat fire near Cabo restaurant, located at 2513 NASA Road 1. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the boat had been cut free and set adrift by its owner and a first responder.

The boat, a 1994 Trojan, drifted toward the middle of Clear Lake but stayed out of primary boating channels. Fire boat crews from Nassau Bay, League City, and Kemah were called in to assist. The Seabrook Fire Boat crew successfully doused the flames, but smaller fires ignited flammable material on board as the boat began to sink.

The boat’s owner, who was asleep on the vessel when the smell of smoke woke him, was unharmed. A neighboring boat and parts of the dock sustained exterior heat damage.

Seabrook Fire Marshal Kevin Rodgers stated that while the cause of the fire remains undetermined, initial indications point to electrical issues within the boat. Officials noted that the boat owner will be responsible for its removal from the lake.
