Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting at San Jacinto Street Convenience Store; Remains at Large
HOUSTON, Texas – August 4, 2023 – Houston Police Department (HPD) officials announced today that charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting and wounding of another man. The incident occurred on Monday, July 31, at a convenience store located at 2111 San Jacinto Street.
The suspect, Jahdari Hatton, 24, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 337th State District Court. A booking photo from September 2021 of Hatton, who is currently not in custody, has been released.
The victim, who was fatally shot, has been identified as Jonathan Pettway, 26.
HPD officers responded to reports of a shooting at the convenience store and discovered a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics rushed Pettway to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A second male, who suffered a graze wound, was treated at the scene and released.
Investigations revealed a fight had broken out inside the store, resulting in a suspect, later identified as Hatton, drawing a firearm and firing multiple rounds into the store. Both Pettway and the other man were hit in the ensuing gunfire.
