Update: Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Southwest Freeway Under Investigation
HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on the Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) that occurred around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 27. The identity of the deceased male, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The man was operating a Honda motorcycle southbound on the Southwest Freeway main lanes at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic lanes. The motorcycle entered the lane behind a tractor-trailer truck and braked heavily before striking the rear of the trailer. The man lost control of the motorcycle, and both he and the motorcycle went to the ground.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased.
The driver of the tractor-trailer truck, who was determined not to be impaired, remained at the scene. He was questioned and subsequently released. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
