UPS has officially entered the same day delivery market

Roadie, an on demand delivery app has now been acquired by UPS a key investor for them.

From Roadie:

If you are not familiar with Roadie, they are an app that specializes in on demand delivery from retailers like Home Depot, Best Buy, Discount Tire, and even Airlines for your left behind luggage.

Originally, Roadie’s original slogan was basically “If you are already on the way, can we give you $10 extra to take this couch to another city?” Eventually they ended up partnering with retailers, rather than everyday citizens which did cause them to pay a bit more, but no more than 50 cents/mile on most deliveries. It’s usually not worth it, unless you are already on your way, but jobs do get picked up rather quickly.

What does this mean for drivers? Nothing in the short term according to Roadie, but in the long term we can probably expect to see an influx of packages as UPS has plenty of packages for us to deliver, especially in the long term.
