Uber Hourly Explained
Drivers: You can make $36/hr!
Last week, I noticed Uber Hourly on my Rider app. Since I haven’t been driving due to not wanting to die from COVID-19, for a couple of dollars. I figured I just missed the memo and threw it onto the back burner.
Today, I received an e-mail from Uber, not as a driver, but as a rider. This is important to keep in mind as you read number 3:
Yup! You read that correctly. “Once your trip has been accepted, contact your driver via in-app text or phone to confirm your desired time and number of stops for your trip.”
So basically drivers will likely not be notified that this is an hourly trip unless your rider happens to be one of the few that actually contacts you and gives you a head up.
(I say likely because I have not been driving. If you notice an “hourly” ping before the rider contacts you, please let me know in the comments, it really could be that Uber is just trying to verify you have enough time, but after driving for Uber for a number of years, I expect the worst of them.)
Anyhow, how much are riders paying vs. what you get is to be determined. Chances are, if Uber does not notify drivers it is an hourly ping, we will be paid our regular rate of 11 cents a minute, or $6.60 a minute, plus any mileage that you are able to rack up.. but on my rider app, it shows Uber is charging $50/hr. (I believe this is the regular price as this is what I saw last week, but you can expect this to go up for riders during surge times.
You know, if Uber said we get the majority of that $50 an hr, I would seriously take a gamble and do hourly rides. If you can do 10 miles for $50/hr, that’s really good. Of course, like anything else Uber, and the fact the rider has to contact you to confirm, I am not holding my breath.
Edit: I opened my Uber app and saw a way to opt-in. It appears drivers will get $36/hr. Just like any other Uber product, this pay will likely go down very quickly. Just keep in mind though, that if a rider wants to go across town, it maybe less than UberX. Riders get 1hr and/or 40 miles per $50. We just get a flat rate of $36/hr.
Seriously though, if you have done a UberHourly ride, please let us know on Facebook or in the comments below. We really appreciate our fans’ input, but as of right now, it doesn’t appear so bad.
