Ask A Driver HLSR

Find your Uber at the Rodeo quickly with these tips from a driver!

If you are attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and plan on being responsible (as everyone should be), there are 3 things you need to be aware of:

1) There will be traffic – We can’t help this. There are tens of thousands of attendees every year. If you are able to see your driver on the map, by all means walk towards them, if you are physically capable and want to minimize your wait.

– Please do not call asking where we are at – you can see us on the map!
– Please do not get an attitude that we are taking too long. We are going as fast as the car in front of us!

Don’t get me wrong, call us when you see us getting close. This does help verify you have the right driver as well!

Pro Tip: If you get an attitude, we already know that will result in a lower rating. If a driver cancels on you after you call them, well, they probably heard you were frustrated and/or upset. Take a deep breath and try again.

2) Surge pricing will be in effect. The best thing you can do is leave a little earlier before the crowd leaves, or wait until it dies down if you want to avoid high pricing.

Pro Tip: Surge pricing is confined to the area that riders are requesting. At NRG, this extends into the neighborhoods surrounding it. If you have a longer trip and just want to get out of the madhouse that is NRG, you can take a shorter ride out of there, like let’s say to Meyerland Plaza. From there you can request again for another driver. – Just be forewarned that it may take a bit of time for a driver to pick it up. (Why would a driver pick you up at a base rate if NRG is surging and down the street?)

P.S. It is a slap in the face if you ask the driver that drops you off (outside the surge zone) to pick you up again at a cheaper rate. It is better to just let that driver go.

3) This is the biggest tip we can give: The official lot is the Yellow Lot. This does not mean you have to be picked up there or dropped off there. Plenty of riders find another spot, like the Fiesta parking lot on Old Spanish Trail/Main. Others walk into the surrounding neighborhoods and then request. This is awesome because we do not have to wait in the long lines (we do not get paid if you are not in the car) nor do you have to pay extra to wait in traffic (rides are based on per mile + per minute)

However, we can not pick up or drop off anywhere at NRG besides the yellow lot. If it is not NRG property, we are golden. If we are caught dropping you off or picking you up anywhere on NRG property by a police officer, we can be ticketed for doing so.

The official pickup and drop off zone for both Uber and Lyft at NRG for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the Yellow Lot
